my DIY high
There's nothing quite like stepping back and saying, "Yes, I made that."
This is it. The beginning of the downfall of my blog. I didn't post at all in May. I have actually been working on some posts. I won't tell you what, but it involves a lot of Lowe's. If I ever fully get my act together, you'll see! For now, I'll share with you a quick and easy wall shelf. My inspiration:I found this on pinterest. Or instagram. Or somewhere else...I'm not really entirely sure. I love it, and if you know who owns it please let me know! I saved the pic in my phone without any thought of linking to the original maker. My thought process:Look at how dang cute that is! It looks so simple. I totally have these items laying around my house. It'd be cool if instead of rope I use leather. I have some left over pleather from computer cases and some crown molding. I wonder if that will work? That's it. I'm going to make it. It didn't work.Infact it was really, really ugly. And shortly after I took this blurry picture...I whacked it with my elbow and broke the glass from that picture frame. #hotmess #pinterestfail My next attempt:It kind of went from bad to worse.... I didn't give up!So I found this lovely old telephone cable? port? wire? No idea what it actually is. In my head, I decided that it'd be good since the wire was flat. Is that scientifically proven? no. So hind-sight is 20/20. Cut the plug part off. You could totally see it under the shelf. Derp. Also, I finally got smart and put my crown molding upside down so that the "shelf" area was flat. I *did* put two TINY nails as "support" under either side of the shelf. You can actually see them in my first pic of the items I used. I think I finally got it right :)It just took some trial and error. But there you go! and it hasn't even fallen.
CAUTION: don't have inside cats and attempt to do this. That just wouldn't be wise. |
